The Fastnet Lighthouse is sited on a rock 4 miles off Cape Clear, Co. Cork.
The lighthouse was built 1900 - 1903.
Made of Cornish stone, it replaces the original of 1854, the black stump of which can be seen in the painting.
Nota Bene -
The person who commissioned this painting, requested I should paint the ocean in bright blue. Her intention was to match the decor of her room. I made the point that the sea mirrors the sky and the colours of the ocean are constantly changing. I explained that an artist is aware of these changes as the many hues, browns and greens must be mixed with other colours at any given time. As a consequence of her preference - I painted the sea her way!
